Birth control pharmacist

How it works

Pharmacist

Complete a short self-assessment online, instead of sitting in a waiting room. Answer questions about your health history, medications, and conditions, and add a recent blood pressure reading. Takes about five minutes and everything stays private.

Stop by the pharmacy and your pharmacist will verify your blood pressure and review your assessment and ensure the medication is safe and appropriate for you. If they have any questions, they will reach out to you directly.

Choose to pick up your medication at the pharmacy or have it delivered to your door. We make it convenient for you to get what you need.

Our pharmacists are available to answer any questions you have about your birth control and provide ongoing support whenever you need it.

Pick from 3 ways to prevent pregnancy

Chose from over 150 products (Brands and generics).
All dispensed by your pharmacist. All covered by most insurance.

The pill

Take one pill every day

The pill

Keeps hormones steady, which can mean clearer skin, lighter periods, and fewer cramps for many people.

Can help with:

  • Preventing pregnancy
  • Making periods more regular
  • Easing PMS symptoms and cramps

How you use it:

Take one pill at the same time every day. Start a new pack when you finish the last active pill.

The patch

Change it weekly

The patch

A small square that sticks to your skin and releases hormones all week long, so you are covered even if you forget about it.

Can help with:

  • Preventing pregnancy
  • Smoothing out hormone ups and downs
  • Lighter, less painful periods

How you use it:

Apply a new patch to clean, dry skin once a week (arm, belly, or butt). Use a patch for three weeks, then take one week off.

The ring

Think about it
once a month

The ring

Sits in the vagina and quietly does the work for three weeks at a time, then you take a one-week break.

Can help with:

  • Preventing pregnancy
  • Making periods more predictable
  • Reducing cramps and heavy bleeding

How you use it:

Place the ring in your vagina and leave it in for three weeks, then remove it for one week before putting in a new ring.

Birth control that works
harder for you.

Birth control is not just about avoiding pregnancy. Used the right way, it can make the rest of the month feel easier.

Birth control that works harder for you

Birth control is not just about avoiding pregnancy. Used the right way, it can make the rest of the month feel easier, more predictable, and more in your control—and your local pharmacist can help you use it that way.

Feel better in your own skin

Breakouts that always show up before your period are not “just how it is.” By smoothing out hormone spikes, certain pills can cut down on deep, painful acne so you are not planning your life—or your selfies—around flare‑ups.

Get your days back from your period

If every cycle means calling out of work, doubling up on pads, or living on heating pads, birth control can shift that. Lighter, shorter, more predictable periods mean fewer ruined plans, less period gear to buy, and a lot more days where you can just get on with life.

Fewer emotional “cliff dives”

When hormones swing hard, moods can, too. For people with intense PMS or PMDD, the right method can soften that monthly crash—fewer days of “I do not feel like myself,” more days where you can trust your own reactions. Your pharmacist can flag which options are most likely to help.

Plan life on your schedule, not your cycle’s

Big trip coming up? Important exam? Heavy bleeding or cycle‑triggered migraines? Extended or continuous regimens can reduce how often you bleed or, in some cases, pause periods for a stretch. That can mean fewer sick days, more energy, and the freedom to plan ahead without building your calendar around your cycle.

No. In New York, trained pharmacists are allowed to assess you, choose a safe method, and dispense self-administered birth control (pill, patch, ring) under a statewide protocol—no separate doctor visit required.

Most commercial plans and Medicaid must cover birth control medications with no copay, so many people pay $0 for the pill, patch, or ring. If your plan does not pay the pharmacist for the consultation, your visit is $30, and your contraceptive itself may still have a $0 copay.

Yes. New York’s Medicaid program (NYRx) reimburses pharmacies for contraceptive consultations and for up to a 12-month supply of self-administered hormonal contraception at once, with no copay to you for these family-planning services.

Once your self-screening is reviewed and you are a safe candidate, your pharmacist can dispense on the spot—often the same day—with the option for in-store pickup or local delivery so you are not waiting on a separate clinic or mail-order pharmacy.

You can be assessed and, when appropriate, receive a prescription supply of combined birth control pills, progestin-only pills, the vaginal ring, or the patch, typically for up to 12 months at a time. Long-acting methods like IUDs and implants still require a clinic visit.

The pharmacist uses a standardized New York State questionnaire and CDC medical eligibility criteria to screen for conditions like high blood pressure, migraines with aura, clotting history, or smoking status. If anything looks risky or needs a physical exam, you will be referred to a doctor or clinic instead of being dispensed on site.

With your permission, the pharmacy can send a summary or use the state notification form so your primary care provider or OB-GYN is kept in the loop. If you do not have a regular doctor, you will be given documentation you can bring to any future provider.

Yes. You can return to the pharmacy or reach out between refills to talk about side effects, missed pills, or changing to a different method; follow-up assessments are covered for Medicaid and may be covered by other plans as they update benefits for pharmacist services.

Unlike national apps that use out-of-state clinicians and separate mail-order pharmacies, your neighborhood pharmacist is both the prescriber (under New York’s protocol) and the place you actually receive your medication. That means one local clinical team, faster in-person help for side effects or questions, and same-day pickup or local delivery instead of waiting on a distant warehouse.

Here is what people say.

Sarah

Did the questionnaire on my phone during lunch, and my pharmacist had my pills ready that afternoon. No weeks of waiting for a doctor visit, no awkward video call, just someone I already trust at the pharmacy.

Jessica

I used to use a mail-order app and my refill got stuck in shipping twice. Here, my pharmacist adjusted my prescription and handed me a 1 year supply the same day so I did not miss any pills.

Emily

The convenience is unmatched. I was able to pick up my patch along with my other vitamins. The pharmacist was super knowledgeable and made me feel completely at ease.

Amanda

Finally, a birth control option that fits my schedule. No more taking time off work for appointments. Just a quick online form and a friendly chat with my local pharmacist.

Rachel

I was nervous about switching methods, but the pharmacist explained everything clearly. It feels safer knowing I can just walk in if I have any questions.
